"With taste, elegance, and appetites that match the male original, Tillman Gilson introduces 'Jane Bond' to the intelligence and literary world with panache and brazen sensuality -- a spoof on a spoof that works. Bravo."

-Robert C. McFarlane, National Security Advisor to President Ronald Reagan

CIA AGENT

A CIA agent within the Central Intelligence Agency refers to someone who is recruited by a CIA officer to spy for US intelligence.  In the outside world, CIA agent can also be used to describe someone who is an officer of the Agency, an American who works for the CIA.

Within the intelligence community, CIA agent is the reference to a Soviet or Afghani or French person who has been recruited to spy on his or her own country and report to the CIA case officer.  A CIA agent is usually paid although sometimes they do it for love of America or a hatred of their own system.  The CIA prefers to have a CIA agent take monetary gifts as a means to keep them involved and dependent on the extra income.

A CIA agent is trained in various methods to transfer information but often they use techniques that are already familiar to them – social avenues, computers that are secure, dead drops where information is hidden in an inanimate object for the case officer to pick up.

If the CIA agent is a high-ranking official in his or her country and is discovered by the local government, the CIA normally has a plan for extracting a top CIA agent and getting them to safety.   In The Very Secret Weapon, Alex gets her East German agent, Hans, out via a road trip through Bulgaria.

The other CIA agent in The Very Secret Weapon is Katarina whom Alex intentionally keeps off the pay list and official agent records due to fear of a mole within the CIA who could identify Katarina.
